Is Recon supposed to be our Sniper Class?

Like I get it. Anti-Material man with big boom mine, but I loved the sniper in S1 for a few reasons that aren't presented in the subclasses available. I loved the laser sight aiming item for the Rogue Sniper as well as the dmr conversion kit. I'm guessing that the laser sight might become an item or still be class specific. As for the conversion kit, I was kind of hoping they would attach it to a rogue or assassin subclass? Or just get a sniper class all on it's own? Or is recon the sniper class?
